This souvenir coin is embossed with an image of the Michigan State Capitol’s east façade. Rising 267 feet, the Palladian-style building was designed by architect Elijah E. Myers and opened in 1879. The coin’s reverse side depicts the stars in the oculus, an iconic feature of the building’s newly-restored dome interior. The coin’s message, “Reach for the Stars!” is a phrase often repeated on Capitol tours as a reminder of the limitless potential of Michigan citizens and visitors alike.
